Travel & Digital Nomad Gear

I frequently get asked about my travel and digital nomad gear. Here are the travel electronics, laptop, phone and pieces of equipment I couldn’t live without when traveling. They’ve just saved my ass so many times!

As I’m more and more leaning towards a minimalistic lifestyle, I happen to use them a lot when I’m at home as well. They’re that good and reliable.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO

Photo + Video Camera
Sony RX-100 III

When you’re traveling light, having a compact & multi-use camera is a must. This one is used by countless vloggers because it’s great and has a pointer and flexible screen.

SD Memory Card
Lexar Professional 633x 32GB SDHC

High capacity, fast and reliable. What’s more to say.

Camera Tripod
G-raphy FlexibleOctopus

This nifty camera accessory allows you to attach your stabilize your camera on the ground or on a fence (you decide!). It’s great for time-lapses and vlogging.

PHONE

SmartPhone
OnePlus 3T

If you want a cheap but powerful smartphone with a great camera, battery and that charges lightning fast (30-minutes for a full day) like me you’ll like the OnePlus phones. They also have dual Sim-card ports which is great when you travel.

Protective Case
Spigen Rugged Armor OnePlus 3 Case

No matter how careful you are with your phones, they’re going to be used intensely in humid, dusty environments when your travel. A case like this one protects it really well. I also like the fact that it’s very discreet.

SMALL ELECTRONICS

International Plug Adapter
Insten Universal World Wide Travel Charger Adapter Plug

Your classic, ugly internation plug adapter. A bit bulky but it’s flexible and has a fuse.

Portable Hard Drive
Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive

Even if I use cloud-based storage, I always have backups in a hard drive that stays home or travels with me.

Portable Battery
iLuv 10000 mAh battery

This battery has enough juice to charge a normal phone 3 times. What I really like about it is its 2 USB ports and its charge level indicator.

AUDIO

High-quality comfort Headphones
Audio-Technica ATH-M50x

I’ve been using those headphones for the past 5 years, love them. They’re engineered to be worn all day in music studios: great, balanced sound quality and very comfortable.

Earphones with Mic & Remote
Panasonic RP-TCM125-K

When on the road, I tend to pack only those earphones as they take very little space, have a surprisingly great sound quality and include a mic + remote. They also cancel noice fairly well, especially with white noise.

Bluetooth Speaker
Bose Sound Link Color Bluetooth Speaker II

Having good speakers when I’m traveling plays a great role in my feeling home. Those are waterproof and are great to use for ambiance or workout music, movies, etc.

LAPTOP

Macbook Pro Laptop
Macbook Pro 15″

This is my main laptop and my lifeline as a digital nomad. Sure it’s not as lightweight as a MacBook Air but the sceen real estate and horsepower makes up for it in my opinion.

Chromebook/Tablet
Acer Chromebook R 11″

When traveling for a long time and for more risky travels which main purpose isn’t work, I use this Chromebook that converts into a tablet. It’s very light and has a great battery (10+ hours). I use it at home as a tablet and to watch videos as a I work on my MacBook.

BAGS & PACKS

2-in-1 Backpack & Daypack
Osprey Farpoint 55

This backpack has been a revelation for me as it is in fact 2 bags that you can attach to each other. They’re pretty waterproof and have their zippers allow you to use locks. The main one is 40L, has hip support, and the daypack is 15L with a laptop compartment among others. The best part? It passes as carry-on and you can “hide” the harnesses!

Cables Organizer
BAGSMART Compact Double-layer Travel Cable Organizer

As digital nomads, we often end up with many unorganized cables in our daypacks. This organizer keeps them… well, organized! It’s the size of an iPad and large enough for a laptop charger.

TSA Travel Locks
XCSOURCE Safe Travel Lock

Having travel locks is such a relief when you have to leave your bags in a bus or boat bunker. I end up using them most of the time including in places as I feel safer and don’t have to think about my bags and valuables.

TRAVEL ACCESSORIES

Travel Pillow
Cabeau Evolution Neck Pillow

A game-changer for people who find it hard to sleep in planes and buses. This pillow is both really comfortable and space-friendly (goes at the bottom of a bag) as it’s made of memory foam. It really supports the head and has a flat neck profile.

Sleep Eye Mask
Sleep Master Sleep Mask

After noise canceling and neck. I had to cover eyesight. I couldn’t believe the difference between premium and airline masks before trying this one! It’s really dark when you wear it and comfortable as it goes around your head. The sleep master also helps cutting noise down.

Microfiber Towel
Sunland Microfiber Towel

This alone saves so much space in anyone’s luggage! They’re also very light and dry really fast. A must-have!
